MEKONG DELTA STORY

Nam Mê – A Journey Through the Mekong Delta
Nam Mê is inspired by the charm of the Mekong Delta, where the essence of Mekong Delta comes to life through every dish.
As you indulge in Nam Mê's dishes, you'll be transported to the sun-kissed lands of the Mekong Delta, leaving with a piece of Southern Vietnam in your heart.

A love letter from Mekong Delta

Nam Mê draws inspiration from the iconic movie L'Amant, which tells the poignant story of a forbidden love affair between a young French girl and a wealthy man. The movie captures the contrasting worlds of its protagonists, weaving together themes of love, longing, and cultural tensions. The Mekong Delta is not just a setting but a symbol of their love's origin, a place where their worlds collide.

Welcome On Board!

The creative process for Nam Mê's menu began with extensive research into the cultural and culinary heritage of the Mekong Delta. The aim was to create not just a list of dishes, but a journey that reflects the rich traditions and flavors of the region.

The design of the menu was conceptualized as a newspaper with stamps, reminiscent of the love letters exchanged in bygone eras. This design choice was inspired by the movie L'Amant. The menu's vintage aesthetic evokes a sense of nostalgia, blending the old-world charm of the Mekong Delta with the timeless romance of the film.

The experience begins with a warm "Welcome on board" greeting, inviting guests to embark on a adventure. The final page of the menu features a thoughtful "How was your trip?" message, inviting guests to reflect on their dining experience their. This closing note reinforces the journey-like experience, making diners feel as though they have traveled through the heart of the Mekong Delta.

Uniforms - Khăn Rằn

The uniforms for the waitstaff at Nam Mê feature T-shirts paired with bandanas inspired by the traditional Khăn Rằn. The Khăn Rằn, a checkered black-and-white scarf, is deeply rooted in the culture of the Mekong Delta.

Khăn Rằn is a symbol of the hardworking and resilient people of Southern Vietnam. Incorporating this element into the uniforms connects the staff with the regional heritage and adds an authentic touch to the overall experience

Paper Fans

For the grand opening event of Nam Mê, each guest will be handed a paper fan upon arrival. In the Mekong Delta, where the weather can be hot and humid, paper fans were traditionally used to provide relief from the sweltering heat. They were indispensable companions for farmers, laborers, and travelers alike, offering a portable source of cool air during long days spent working in the fields or navigating the waterways.

Beyond their practical utility, paper fans also hold symbolic importance in Vietnamese culture. They are often adorned with intricate designs and vibrant colors, reflecting the artistry and craftsmanship of the region.

Nón Lá

The address sign at Nam Mê is a striking feature designed in the shape of a triangle, reminiscent of the traditional nón lá, or conical hat, which is synonymous with the Mekong Delta. Nón lá is not only a practical accessory worn by farmers and workers to shield themselves from the sun and rain, but it also carries symbolic meaning. Its conical shape is said to represent the connection between heaven and earth, reflecting the harmonious relationship between humans and nature.

By featuring the nón lá on the front door of the restaurant, Nam Mê extends a heartfelt invitation that celebrates the cultural heritage and timeless beauty of Mekong Delta.

Nam Mê Leaves You With More Than A Meal

Nam Mê leaves you with a piece of Southern Vietnam, a cherished memory of a place where every bite, every sight, and every moment is infused with the spirit of the Mekong Delta. The story of Nam Mê is not just about food; it's about experiencing the soul of a region, a profound connection between past and present.
